Re: River Boat Gambling
lee roy 13...can't you just give it a rest? Talk about ranting and raving...we have peace on this forum until you start your rant about LD. LD is very knowledgeable about the issues and he makes a lot of sense. He has the ability of making people think in an objective way. He's not bothering anyone else on here, you seem to be the only one who doesn't want LD to comment on the issues. Now, why would that be...he makes too much sense? At least LD has something intelligent to say. I never see you have an opinion on anything except LD's opinions...so why are you here?

Re: River Boat Gambling
In your mind he is knowledgeable, anyone of his suggestions generally has to do with costing taxpayers more money. I'm not pro-business and therefore I don't like his ideas, he does not make me think objectively I only wonder what the weirdo will come up with next. Where is his track record for success? I haven't seen anywhere on here where he has a proven track record in business or otherwise, only an email where he says he has influence with Kalby involving city business. Since when did the city hire some internet kook to give advice to Kalb, this is part of whats wrong with the city. You got a shelf stocker mayor teaming with a pro-business internet kook know it all, now whats wrong with that picture. My opinion of Look Deeper is that he is some kind of weirdo, this is America and I'm entitled to my opinion and my right to speak out against anything that I don't believe in. I don't believe in current city or county government and I don't believe in Look Deeper. You can keep sniffing his ass if you want to, I prefer my wifes flower garden.

Re: River Boat Gambling
another point alot of people seem to be overlooking is the fact this would be river boat gambling ,which means they would dock and board here but then float down river therefore the money isnt spent here but on the river and what doesnt stay on the river will go only to the private investers who have shares in the casino itself and the few dozen experienced casino dealers that they bring in with the boats

Re: River Boat Gambling
Two points. One, LD is intelligent and has a lot of great ideas. He isn't always right and none of us is but he is a lot smarter than a lot of the people on here--he at least has information and ideas and doesn't just bash people. Two. River boat gambling would bring some money into the area. When folks I know go to the boats they usually stay the night someplace close and also shop and eat. Usually areas around them build up to handle the traffic. There are lots of drawbacks but if it happens we should play to the positive things that could happen and try to keep the other things to a minimum.

Each of which has had the keys to the SENTINEL. Users (or abusers) of that site.
So LEE ROY.. you ol'e anti-business anti-government communist you...

This is the third time you bring your own wife into your point-less HATE-RIDDEN LAME SPEW.
Surely it was your friend who said: You're a "Pissy Little !@#$".

ONE:
JANEWANNA... Appreciate your words. I have never professed to always be right. I will ADMIT when I am wrong. I think I have demonstrated that numerous times on this forum. AND NEVER AVOID ADMITTING IT. Compare that to supposedly distingusted people who will avoid a subject or make up a bogus excuss to avoid talking about something where they fear their position will be invalidated.
TWO:
Look at the geographic and demographics for River Boat Gambling.
The one down twenty miles or so down-river from Cincinatti has a big cash inflow source from the Cincinnatti Metropolitan Area. Portsmouth is not located near any such Metropolitan Area.
THREE:
If RiverBoat Gambling is approved for Portsmouth then surely it will be approved elsewhere in Ohio too.
Which location will be the preferred choice to attract people from Metropolitan areas within two or three hours driving distance???

Re: River Boat Gambling
LD: apparently you and I are on the same wave lenghth here areas such as Cincinnatti and Marietta all would probably catch the main cash flow because they have so much more to offer, the bottom line is as far as River boat gambling in this small town the cost of preparatory ammenities such as paving steets, more hotels and lodging, more police and traffic control ect,ect just does not weigh out being a viable investment for our city at this time the preparatory cost would be far in debt than the city could ever hope to regain in enough time to make the venture a worth while investment.

Re: River Boat Gambling
I guess this shows that people can agree on something without resorting to name-calling.
All your points are very valid.
So who profits from such a venture? Lots of outside forces and a few inside ones. THAT IS IT!
Bringing in gambling will be a very high risk venture. Very high risk. If P-Town does not keep out-competing other places (which already have a natural advantage)... then it will turn inward to look for customers to feed the GAMING MACHINE. Locals will be the target. That means more money flow out of Scioto County. Or... the gamers are burdoned with paying the taxes.
So like the State of Ohio tries to sell us on TV each day... YOU TOO CAN BE A WINNER !!!
Boy.. our schools really prospered from that promise.. NOT !
Ever notice the lottery is CONTROLLED from Cleveland... not the Capital City??? Hmm.
the lottery is gambling... lets face it. Surely most of us have noticed at the check-out lines who should and should not be spending money on gambling (lottery) as they scrap up enough money for a pack of cigarettes.
It is a free society.. we can choose our life styles and outcome in life. HOWEVER.. just as other VICE affects the greater whole... a second rate gambling town will set the stage for undesireable results.
We'll make high-roller gambling consumers right here in the Gateway to the South... NOT !
