SOMC Planning Major Add On to Existing E.R.......
While in the hospital, I have learned that there is going to be a major add on to the Emergency room.
This was confirmed by the assistant to the Head of the E.R. Doctors and Patient Relations.
This is projected to be longer than a year project. The end result will be some 20 new additional units for the Emergency Room.
Be prepared! In the next week or so the back lot will be blocked off. It's going to be a real inconvenience, as parking is going to be shoved clear over to the right side (North).
Personally, I would like to see the location of the helicopter pad moved to the building roof. I watched them come and go, the pad is located at the farthest point from the E.R.
If the PDT has not already reported this, I am sure they will. Sometimes, I think the community isn't informed ahead of time as well as it should be, causing confusion and inconvenience, especially as busy as a place that SOMC can be.
Peace Always,

Re: SOMC Planning Major Add On to Existing E.R.......
The heli pad is a great idea for the roof but where? They aren't going to want to make it convenient because there is too much money involved in where it is now. The ambulance company makes money and so does the hospital. I know of someone who had to take a ride to Columbus and it costs a couple thousand just to go from the ER to the pad.
As Lee says, it's all in the Bens.
Sorry. As for the expansion. What good does it do to add on if you don't have the people to take care of the sick when they get there? I hope they are thinking of adding employees too. But then, as in the past, they never have the money for the employees because they spent too much on the expansion.

Re: SOMC Planning Major Add On to Existing E.R.......
Hospital networks and investment relationships.. along with major medical suppliers.. is a complex interwoven realtionship.
The "professionals" who staff and are given incentives to join a hospital netowrk add to this.
This creates an entity with what seem to be its own will and force. One person in this collective has their interests in mind while otehr have theirs. This creates a third component of behavior.
Just like when taking two drugs.. get a third reaction.
Since the there is BIG PORK in medicare and medicade... this entity reacts to absorb more of what it can get from that PORK.

Since SOMC is no longer a part of Ohio Health Group(Riverside Grant etc) it is going to be interesting to watch and see what happens. Will they continue the recuitment program for Doctors which helped pay for College Tuition if they worked a certain number of years at SOMC. A lot of those Doctors are now up at KDMC.

Re: SOMC Planning Major Add On to Existing E.R.......
Guess I am wondering if the idea for the new ER area has more to do with Kings Daughters moving into the city than SOMC's caring about people. Sorry but SOMC is all about the bens....dead or alive!

Re: SOMC Planning Major Add On to Existing E.R.......
...Well, I guess the back lot closes off on the 7th of August.
This is going to be a huge addition not just the E.R. but 1 West, and it will be connected with expanding surgery...was told today it will be ALL private rooms.
...And, also expanding ICU.
...Oh I am quite sure it's going to be more than interesting, for I have no idea "how much" property King's Daughter's has bought up, not just on Rt23.
You think a trip to Columbus costs?? Try looking at the cost on ONE dialysis session.
It makes you wonder what's next? You pay for insurance in case something bad happens too you....Pay awful price for a new car (which I have never owned), that loses half it's value in 6 months?? Pay Insurance on the new car.....and now...I wouldn't doubt it if someone starts selling "gas cards", with the promise not to exceed ...$$$$$?????

Re: SOMC Planning Major Add On to Existing E.R.......
SOMC is ripe for a real hospital to take over. Ask all those people that Craig Gilliland fired about how caring and great the place is. Ask all those folks with sewer in their basements how great or ask those folks that live on Sherman Rd.
Their days are numbered and they are doing it to themselves with sogp and chamber presidents (all belong to Johnson) running the place.
They could give a crap less about the citizens.... It is tax dollars they are after. If they had to make it on their own, they would still be in the original hospital.
