no idea he had to leave before I could find out and there was so much more I wanted to ask, and as you say a lot of what the man said made sense so I guess we will soon find out one way or the other.

Gym stays and will be maintained by the School system.

I have also been told that the School system wants to take over the stadium since they have the funds to rebuild/repair it and our city does not/will not do anything with it.

Is this a viable option?????? Some feedback please.

Don't know if this can happen but if the $ are there it would be a great idea. PHS teams have played there practically forever and they surely want to keep the facility in use. Where else would they play??? Heard a few years ago that the city was thinking of selling to the college. Bad idea.

Lee, several years ago, the stadium idea of being part of the school district came up....actually I think it has every so often by some of the sports die-hards anyway, but it was the on-going maintenance, upkeep, type stuff that figured so expensively the idea never went any further. I frankly haven't been a supporter of the idea because I fear additional levys being on the horizon for the stadium. As you know, I have also maintained a operations levy for the new schools is not to far off either. With all due respect to those who are against this, I am a supporter of working out a deal with Shawnee State. One way or the other, taxpayer money is still going to go to operate the stadium, BUT, the college has a better overall sports budget, sports administration and allot more time for such a venture than the Portsmouth City School District could ever have. There can be, and should be, contracts or legislation if thats whats needed, that keep the Portsmouth School District a permanent tenant in the stadium as well as Portsmouth Notre Dame. Details of that could be developed between the schools, university and the city. The stadium is probably in better shape now than it has been in years, but I really think the university can do the job for less financial impact than can the Portsmouth City School district when it is faced with each year's continual raise in education costs, grant cutbacks, etc. Again, I believe the financial impact would be much less on Shawnee State and, with all due respect to the groundskeepers and other support staff of the Portsmouth Schools, Shawnee State can most likely keep the stadium in a higher quality condition year in and year out.

I agree with Bgreene the PCSD is already hinting that they will need more tax money for the upkeep of the new buildings, where would they get the money to maintain the stadium?

WHY THE BIG RUSH? LIST THE PROPERTY 'AS IS' AND WILL ZONE TO SUIT BUYER!
LIST IT WITH A NATIONAL REALTOR. IF WE HAD A LEGIT CHAMBER OF COMMERCE INSTEAD OF THE IMBECILES WHO PRETEND TO BE. LET ORGANIZE A GREAT BIG PROTEST AND PITCH OUR TENTS ON THE LAWN TO STOP DEMOLITION.

STOP THE DEMOLITION NOW!

Why not a pardnership with all envolved?

We were told we could rent the stadium for very large concerts which are in our plans. Would the college that tried their darndest to stop us ever allow us to use our stadium? I seriously doupt that! They are ran by all members of SOGP and work in conjunction for whatever they want. The college is most definantly not the silver bullet we are looking for to fix our city. We can capitalize from the students but certainly not the unelected leaders that run EVERYTHING here they can get their hands on.

Does the SOGP gang still not have the right to do as they please with city land?? WATCH OUT! (according to the 1965 ordinance that gave away our city behind our forefathers backs.)

TAKE HER BACK!

The Stadium is on the SSU list to take over.
Not to mention all the land inbetween including Maryann Street.

Moe, no disrespect intended, but has something surfaced documentation wise on their intent to take over the stadium property? Reason I ask is that a few years back SSU somehow got the rumor started they were forming a football team. Most people then thought it was virtually impossible based on its enrollment but it WAS a good opportunity for them to go after the stadium, even via eminent domain possibly.
